3 Easy Posture Fixes to Celebrate Posture Awareness Month

May is Posture Improvement Month: Stand Tall, Feel Better!

Did you know that May is officially Posture Improvement Month? It’s the perfect time to bring awareness to how we carry ourselves throughout the day — whether we’re sitting at our desks, driving, or scrolling on our phones. Good posture is more than just looking confident — it affects your energy, mood, digestion, and even how well you sleep.

When your posture is aligned, your body functions better. You breathe more deeply, reduce strain on your joints, and feel less fatigue. Poor posture, on the other hand, contributes to chronic pain, tension headaches, and sluggish energy.

So let’s celebrate this month with a commitment to stand taller and feel better. Here are three of the best posture exercises you can start doing today:

1) Wall Angels

Wall Angels – “W” position
Wall Angels “Y” Position

Stand with your back against a wall, feet a few inches away from it. Press your lower back, upper back, and head against the wall. Raise your arms to make a “W” shape, then slowly extend them overhead into a “Y” shape, keeping contact with the wall. Repeat 8 reps.

Why it works: Activates postural muscles in the upper back and improves shoulder mobility.

2) Chin Tucks

Chin Tucks – give yourself a double chin

Sit or stand tall. Gently draw your chin straight back (like you’re trying to give yourself a double chin). Hold for 5 seconds, then release. Do 5 reps.

Why it works: Strengthens deep neck flexors and counters forward head posture.

3) Bruegger’s Relief Position

Bruegger’s Relief Position – up tall, squeeze shoulder blades

Sit at the edge of your chair, feet flat. Roll your shoulders back and down, turn palms to face forward, and gently squeeze shoulder blades together. Hold for 30 seconds while breathing deeply.

Why it works: Opens the chest, activates the postural chain, and resets alignment.

Bonus Tip:

If there is one wish I could get across to the world, and especially to parents, it is to make your children lie on their stomachs, propped up on their elbows to use devices. This one tip could potentially save your child from wrecking their spine and spinal curves from the hours most children spend sitting slouched while looking down at a phone.

Use devices (especially your children!) on your stomach on your elbows.
